LINCOLN, Neb- The Wisconsin women's basketball team (10-9, 1-7 Big Ten) fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers (15-4, 6-2 Big Ten), 91-60, on Monday, Jan. 20, at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Serah Williams continued her strong season with an impressive 20-point, 8-rebound performance, her ninth game this season scoring 20 or more points. Wisconsin finished the game shooting 37.9% (25-66) from the field, 17.6% (3-17) from three-point range, and 63.6% (7-11) at the free-throw line.
Nebraska shot 54.2% (32-59) from the field, 50.0% (16-32) from beyond the arc, and 91.7% (11-12) from the free-throw line. Kendall Moriarty led five double-figure scorers for the Cornhuskers with 17 points.
How It Happened
The game began with a competitive pace, as the two teams exchanged baskets in the opening minutes. Wisconsin was able to keep pace with the Cornhuskers early on, but Nebraska gradually started to build momentum. The Cornhuskers' defense tightened in the second quarter, which allowed them to create separation from the Badgers. By the end of the first half, Nebraska had a commanding 42-23 lead. One of the few bright spots for Wisconsin came just before halftime, as
Tess Myers sank a buzzer-beating three-pointer to trim the Huskers' lead slightly, but it was clear that the Badgers had a steep hill to climb in the second half.
Coming out of the break, Wisconsin showed some signs of life, with a few strong offensive possessions that hinted at a potential comeback. However, Nebraska quickly snuffed out any momentum the Badgers tried to build. The Cornhuskers continued to execute well on both ends of the floor, with their fast-paced offense and tough defense proving too much for Wisconsin to overcome. Nebraska outscored the Badgers in the third and fourth quarters, finishing the game with a dominant 31-point victory.
