Badgers fall to Hoosiers in Madison

Wisconsin defeated by Indiana, 68-54

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (11-12, 4-9 B1G) fell to the No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers (21-3, 12-2 B1G) on Wednesday, Feb. 14 inside the Kohl Center.

Quarter one was comprised of aggressive, high-intensity basketball in which neither team could get much of a lead on the other. Brooke Schramek got the Badgers rolling with a long two and was followed by Ronnie Porter who recorded a beautiful lay-in at the rim. This was just the start of the sophomore's quarter-one offense, as she followed up with a three-pointer and a jumper and swiftly brought her point total to eight. Indiana was shooting well early on, draining four-of-five shots from behind the arc, and held the lead for the majority of the quarter. While the Hoosiers' shooting was sharp, the Badgers kept right on their heels, trailing by just one point, 20-19, heading into quarter two.

D'Yanis Jimenez landed the first field goal of the second quarter, but soon after, Indiana commanded control of the game. The team went on an 11-0 run that was finally quelled by a layup from Schramek. The Badgers had little response to the Hoosiers' sharp shooting and entered the half down 41-25.

Wisconsin entered the second half with more offensive precision than the quarter prior, scoring the first six points of the third. Williams took hold of the offense, scoring six quick points, advancing her point total to 14 ahead of the final 10 minutes of play. Halle Douglass added two offensive contributions to narrow Indiana's lead and closed out the quarter trailing 48-39. The fourth quarter looked similar to the second, with Indiana finding its offensive rhythm and Wisconsin having little response. The team went on a late  9-2 run near the game's finale, but ultimately fell, 68-54.

Wisconsin shot 42.9% (18-42) from the field and 14.3% (1-7) from 3-point range. The Badgers shot 81.0% (17-21) from the free-throw line. Wisconsin out-rebounded Indiana, 32-26.

Indiana shot 44.4% (24-54) from field-goal range, including 50.0% (10-20) from behind the arc. The Hoosiers were 62.5% (10-16). IU was led in scoring by Sara Scalia, who recorded 17 points (5-12 FG, 3-8 3FG, 1-1 FT) and shot 50.0% from behind the arc.
