Badgers hit snooze on the Black Bear’s season

Three goals vaulted Wisconsin past Maine

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 5 Wisconsin women's soccer team defeated the Maine Black Bears, 3-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Two early goals by Aryssa Mahrt and Ashley Martinez gave the Badgers the momentum to never look back. 

How it Happened

First Half
The Badgers were electric in the first half with Ayrssa Mahrt scoring the first goal in the second minute of the game.

Two minutes later, Mahrt sent a pass to Ashley Martinez which allowed her to capitalize making the score 2-0.

With the Badgers leading 2-0, they also dominated in shots (7-0), shots on goal (6-0), and corners (5-3).

Second Half
The Badgers came out of the break eager to add another goal.

The Black Bears capitalized on a gap in Wisconsin's defense, scoring in the 48th minute. But the Badgers responded swiftly, with Erin Connolly finding the back of the net in the 57th minute.

Wisconsin held the statistical advantage throughout the entire match leading in shots (13-3), shots-on-goal (12-3, and corners (13-4).
