MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - No. 10 Wisconsin fell to No. 7 Purdue, 57-55, on a last-second shot in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday night.Ā
Maty Wilke gave Wisconsin the go-ahead bucket, as the Badgers took a 55-54 lead, with 10 seconds remaining in the game. Out of the Purdue timeout, Jayla Smith hit the game-winning three-pointer from the wing, to give Purdue the victory.Ā
The Badgers were led by Julie Pospisilova and Maty Wilke, as they both finished with 17 points and three steals. Wilke cashed in on a team-high, five 3-pointers.Ā
Wisconsin got the jump on Purdue early, as the Badgers took a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. Purdue shot just 19 percent from the floor in the first frame, going 3-for-16 from the field.
The Badgers extended their lead to 27-11 after a 7-0 run started by Julie Pospisilova. However, Purdue began to settle in and put together a 9-0 run of their own to end the half. Purdue trailed 30-21 heading into halftime.Ā
Purdue climbed back into the game, to take their first lead with 3:15 to play. The Badgers and Boilermakers went back-and-forth in the final minutes of play, until Purdue hit the game-winning shot and the Badgers came up empty-handed on a last second desperation shot from Maty Wilke.Ā
