Five things to know: Women’s swimming heads to NCAA’s

Badgers send 10 to Knoxville
MADISON, Wis. – The No.23 Wisconsin women's swimming team closes out championship season by sending 10 swimmers to the NCAA Championships on Wednesday- Saturday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Two finals will be held on Wednesday, beginning a 5 p.m. CT. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. CT daily with finals following at 5 p.m. CT. The championships will be streamed on ESPN+.
Here are five things to know for this week.
1. DEFENDING BADGERS: Sophomore Paige McKenna enters the meet as the defending NCAA champion in the 1650 freestyle. The two-time Big Ten Conference champion looks to defend her title in the event this year and enters the event as the top seed by over one second with a season-best time of 15:46.90.2. B1G RETURN: The Badger women are coming off an impressive Big Ten Championship after crowning two individuals champions. Sophomore Abby Carlson won her first conference title with a win in the 500 freestyle and McKenna won her second-straight title in the 1650 free. Junior Phoebe Bacon also picked up a silver medal in the 200 IM at the meet.
3. SCORING BADGERS: Heading into the meet, the Badgers have several swimmers ranked in the top-25 qualifiers. McKenna enters the 1650 free as the top seed, looking to defend her title in the event. Carlson enters the 500 free with the seventh-fastest time of 4:38.15 while she is 16th in the 200 free in 1:44.19. Bacon is the No. 8-seed in the 200 back in 1:51.22, 10th in the 100 back in 51.40 and 14th in the 200 IM in 1:55.06.
4. ELITE COMPANY: Wisconsin enters its final meet of the season as the 23rd seed. The Badgers have maintained a top-25 placement throughout the entire season, after going 6-2 in dual meets. Three other Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 25 with Ohio State in fifth, Indiana in 10th, and Michigan in 16th.
