COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wisconsin women's basketball team fell on the road at No. 18 Ohio State, 59-42, on Sunday afternoon.
Three Badgers (7-19, 4-12 B1G) scored in double figures as
Krystyna Ellew and
Julie Pospisilova both scored 11 points and
Katie Nelson added 10 points. Wisconsin shot 30% (15-50) from the field, including 35.3% (6-17) from 3-point range.
Ohio State (19-5, 11-4) was led by Jacey Sheldon with 19 points as the Buckeyes shot 43.1% (25-58) from the field, including just 16.7% (2-12) from behind the arc. The Badgers held OSU well below its season average of 9.2 triples per game and well below its season average of 40.2% from deep.
The Buckeyes outrebounded Wisconsin, 40-33, as UW was led by Pospisilova with eight rebounds while Ellew added six boards. The Badgers dished off 10 assists but gave up the ball 18 times as OSU scored 22 points off turnovers.
Wisconsin rallied late in the first period, scoring the last six points of the quarter on back-to-back 3-pointers by Pospisilova and Nelson to make it a 16-15 game after one.
The Buckeyes opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 25-15 with 6:32 on the clock before a 4-0 Badger run made it 25-19 with 4:07 to play in the quarter. OSU led 32-22 at the half and scored the first 14 points of the third quarter to lead 46-22 with 5:16 on the clock. Wisconsin outscored Ohio State 13-8 in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 15 (57-42) with 1:30 remaining but the rally came too late.
