GREEN BAY, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin women's basketball team played Green Bay on Wednesday, Dec. 14, and was defeated 70-60.Â
Julie Pospisilova recorded 18 points (4-14 FG, 3-9 3FG, 7-7 FT) and led the team in 3-pointers and free throws made. In addition, she had team-highs in rebounds with eight, assists with five and steals with three. She also tied for a team-high in blocks with one.Â
Junior Brooke Schramek accompanied Pospisilova on the offensive end, accumulating 16 points (5-10 FG, 0-3 3FG, 6-7 FT). She recorded a season-high 18 points (4-6 FG, 1-2 3FG, 9-10 FT) against St. Thomas and is averaging 17.0 points in the last two contests.
The first quarter was low scoring for both teams. Wisconsin was up 11-10 after the first 10 minutes and Schramek scored four points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3FG, 2-3 FT), but UW shot 23.1% from field-goal range and 16.7 percent from three. The Badgers stepped it up in the second half, dropping two more threes and improving shoot 46.7% from the floor. Pospisilova finished the first half with eight points (3-8 FG, 2-3 3FG), five rebounds and three assists while Schramek had six points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3FG, 2-3 FT). Wisconsin committed seven turnovers in the first half, however, and entered the locker room trailing 29-28.Â
The second half did not go as the Badgers had hoped. They had their lowest scoring quarter of the game in the third with 10 points, but followed that up with 22 points in the fourth quarter. A majority of the team struggled offensively in the final 20 minutes, and Avery Labarbera, Pospisilova and Schramek accounted for 27 of the Badgers' 32 second-half points. Â
Wisconsin shot 34.6% (18-52) from the field as well as 28.0% (7-25) from 3-point range.
Green Bay shot 40.0% (22-55) from field-goal range, including 23.8% (5-21) from three and 77.8% (21-27) from the free throw line. Maddy Schreiber scored 19 points (7-12 FG, 3-7 3FG, 2-3 FT) and Bailey Butler dropped 15 points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 11-11 FT). Both of these sophomores recorded career-highs in points against the Badgers.Â
