ST.CLOUD, Minn.— The third-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team earned a shootout win on Friday night at St. Cloud State after the two WCHA foes battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation.
The Badgers (18-3-4, 13-3-3-2-0-2) went down early to the Huskies as Olivia Cvar scored 26 seconds into the game for SCSU (18-3-3, 3-12-2-0-0-0 WCHA).
UW dominated play in the second period, outshooting the Huskies 20-1 but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the third, the Badgers capitalized on a power play as
Makenna Webster scored off assists from
Daryl Watts and
Casey O'Brien midway through the period. UW had plenty of more chances in the frame, but were unable to convert.
The teams went into a three-on-three overtime but neither team scored and the game officially ended in a tie.
Nicole LaMantia made the lone shootout goal to claim the extra conference point for Wisconsin while
Kennedy Blair made three saves in the shootout.
