No. 9 Wisconsin takes on No. 8 Minnesota in first round
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin (10-11, 4-7 B1G) men's tennis team hits the road for the first leg of the postseason jaunt. No. 9 Wisconsin will face No. 8 Minnesota in the first round of the Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament.
The Badgers will face the Golden Gophers on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. (CT) in Ann Arbor, Michigan where the tournament will be hosted by the Wolverines. The winner of UW/Minnesota will take on top seed Ohio State on Friday in a 9 a.m. CT match.
Westerman's Wing:
"It's going to be fun to play the Gophers again tomorrow. We had a great match last time and we will be ready for another tough battle."
- Head coach Danny Westerman
Last Time against Minnesota:
Wisconsin and Minnesota's regular season matchup was a classic to remember. The Border Battle rivalry added another epic chapter in a book of many heated bouts between the two schools. Minnesota picked up the team doubles point against Wisconsin - something unfamiliar to the Cardinal and White squad who is accustomed to snagging the team tally.
After falling behind 1-0, the Badgers battled mightily in the singles frame. Germans, sophomore Jesper Freimuth and freshman Lenard Soha, along with sophomore Robert Krill were able to come through for Wisconsin to level the match score at 3-3. It all came down to the No. 1 spot between senior Osgar O'Hoisin and Minnesota's Josip Krstnanovich, who ultimately snagged the match in fantastic three-set fashion.
