EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 25 Wisconsin softball team dropped its series opener at Northwestern Friday evening, falling 4-1.

The Badgers (30-6 overall, 7-3 Big Ten) struck first when freshman
Jolie Fish smacked a solo home run to center field in the second inning, but were ultimately unable to overcome a patient Northwestern (31-7, 10-0) lineup.

Ultimately, walks and errors proved costly for UW. Pitchers
Kaitlyn Menz and
Haley Hestekin gave up a combined nine walks and Wisconsin committed two errors. Only two of Northwestern's four runs were earned.

Menz and Hestekin also combined for nine strikeouts throughout and allowed only three hits. Â
