Slug fest: Badgers run rule Islanders

UW earns 10th-straight win in 9-0 victory over TAMUCC

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Wisconsin softball team defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi 9-0 Sunday morning for its 10th-straight win of the season. The Badgers (13-1) concluded the Islander Invite with a perfect 5-0 record.

The scoring started right away in the first inning. After a Kayla Konwent single and Melanie Cross walk, a wild pitch helped score the first run of the day. Junior Caroline Hedgcock made it a 3-0 game with her third home run of the weekend, giving the Badgers a lead they would never relinquish.

Melanie Cross put two more runs on the board with a second home run in the third inning. She scored Konwent who had gotten on base via a walk.

The Badgers sealed the deal in the top of the fourth inning. Lauren Foster and Gabby Scherle hit back-to-back singles to start the frame, helping load the bases after Jordan Little was walked. Pinch hitter Taylor Johnson grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Foster.

In the next at bat, Konwent put the nail in the coffin with a three-run dinger to right center, giving the Badgers a 9-0 advantage and ending the game after a scoreless outing in the fifth inning.

Pitchers Kaitlyn Menz, Maddie Schwartz and Haley Hestekin teamed up for five strikeouts and no walks allowed in the five-inning shutout.
