Wisconsin set to battle Marquette on Thursday
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin looks to continue its stellar start to the spring season on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. (CT) when the Badgers take on Marquette at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
1. Westerman's wing: Head coach Danny Westerman previews the Badgers' weekend ahead:
"We have a short week with a very tough Marquette team coming to Madison this Thursday. We need to have some focused practices today and tomorrow to be ready. We had a great weekend of competitive matches, but we now need to shift our focus and continue to improve this week and learn from those matches. Really excited to play our in-state rival. We will be pumped to battle again Thursday."
2. Scouting Marquette: Don't let Marquette's 3-3 record in the 2019 season fool you – these guys are for real. Where their wins are by large margins, their losses are by tiny ones. The Golden Eagles boast wins over Georgetown, University of Illinois-Chicago, and Valparaiso. Their losses come to elite Big Ten squads Iowa, Purdue, and Minnesota – who will most certainly all be in the mix for a conference title.
Wisconsin has been absolutely dominant over Marquette in the two school's past. The Badgers hold a 53-2-1 all-time record over the Golden Eagles, including a 34-1-1 record at home.
3. Doubling Down: In head coach Danny Westerman's tenure, the doubles point has been something of an emphasis. That trend continues into the 2019 season, as the Badgers post an unbeaten 5-0 record in team doubles on the year.
4. Ode to O'Hoisin: As Westerman put it after O'Hoisin's match-clinching win against Washington on Sunday, "He (Osgar) hasn't had a bad day of practice in four years". So, it's only fair that the Badger captain and senior should reap the rewards. He did just that over the weekend. O'Hoisin took down Oklahoma State's ace on Saturday morning by a retirement decision after starting the match up 6-4, 2-0. The senior continued in his dominant ways, posting the match-clinching victory over Washington's Enzo Sommer on Sunday in three-set fashion, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
