REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — The No. 10 Wisconsin men's rowing team rebounded from Saturday's tough competition on Sunday with a convincing sweep of Oregon State in the final day of competition at the Stanford Invite.
Â
All three crews battled strong headwinds, but the weather was no match for a seasoned Badgers team that rarely sees smooth water until early May.Â
Â
The varsity eight stayed strong the entire 2000 meters, clocking in at 6:15.2 to best the Beavers and end the weekend with a victory. Oregon State finished with a time of 6:22.2. Â
Â
The second varsity eight won by the largest margin of Wisconsin's three races, crossing the finish line nearly eight seconds ahead of the Beavers' second crew with a time of 6:16.5.Â
Â
A close race between UW's third varsity eight and Oregon State went in Wisconsin's favor, as the Badgers beat out the Beavers with a time of 6:27.4 to earn UW's first sweep of the spring season.Â
Â
Up Next: The Badgers will take this weekend off before traveling to Baraboo, Wisconsin, for racing on April 28 and 29 at Devil's Lake.Â

On today's races:
The first varsity eight was a very workmen-like, mature race. They finished about six seconds plus ahead of Oregon State. Oregon State hung around, rode high to get the lead, but our guys maintained their composure and just drilled it down the course.Â
Â
Only afterwards did I say to them that I could tell the 6,000 miles of traveling we've done in the last eight days had taken a toll. They just didn't look as sharp, or with as much pop as they had on Saturday. But it was perfectly acceptable and that's the sign of a mature group. They had six seniors and handled it well.Â
Â
It was an excellent run. They learned a lot. I thought their race against Cal was the best race of the weekend. It was the high point. We can really work with that. That was the best we've done in a while. Â
Â
The 2V and the 1F/3V, look at the times. We were very well matched. The 2V took it to them and blew them out of the water right away, and did great. They won easily. That was their best race of the weekend.Â
Â
In the 3V, or what I'll call the first frosh, there were six freshmen in there. They took it over right away, and won fairly handily. That was impressive. They had some toughness and a tremendous amount of learning. Their learning curve is high. It was fun to see. They get my shoutout for developing quickly under pressure.
Â
On having the weekend off:Â
We're off next weekend from racing. We're happy not to have anything till a week from Saturday at Devil's Lake. We need that time at home.Â
