Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Wisconsin blanks Ohio State, 2-0

Catalano, Mueller help Badgers close regular season in strong fashion

COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team (8-4-4, 4-3-1 Big Ten) earned a confidence-boosting win over Big Ten foe Ohio State (7-9-1, 3-5-0) on Sunday afternoon in Columbus, as the Badgers shutout the Buckeyes for a 2-0 victory in UW's final regular season game.

Propelling themselves into the postseason on a wave of momentum, it was Mike Catalano who set the tone early and came up big with the first Badger goal. The senior collected a nice ball from fellow senior Chris Mueller, then drove it into the net for the first score of the contest. It marked Catalano's sixth goal of the season and Mueller's 13th assist.

The other goal came just 31 seconds into the second half. This time, it was Mueller on the scoring end of the play as he notched his eighth goal of the year. Senior Tom Barlow and Catalano were credited with the assists.

While both teams recorded three shots on goal apiece, Wisconsin outshot Ohio State, 10-5.

Head Coach John Trask
Opening statement
"The game obviously shifted when we took the red card.. It was senior night here at Ohio State and I thought we showed a lot of maturity today. They are a good, disciplined team and we knew it would be difficult to break them down. Fortunately, we did a couple of times. Mike scored a excellent goal and there was good interplay between him and Chris Mueller.

On the week ahead
"We are going to enjoy this result. I believe this is the first time we have won in Ohio State since 2000. That tells you how difficult it is to win on the road here. We are entering the Quarter Final awaiting the results to see where we are going."

Up Next: Wisconsin turns its focus to the postseason and the Big Ten Tournament, which will begin on Saturday.
