Freshman will compete for Team USA in junior race
MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin women's cross country and track and field freshman Amy Davis will compete for the United States at the 2016 Great Edinburgh Cross Country Challenge in Scotland on Jan. 9, USA Track & Field announced earlier this month.
A Madison native, Davis will compete for Team USA in the women's junior 4-kilometer race at Holyrood Park, marking the third-straight year a UW runner will compete in the junior race. Last year, UW sophomore Joe Hardy and freshman Olin Hacker ran in the junior men's race, while junior Sarah Disanza competed in the women's junior race in 2014.
Davis, the daughter of Wisconsin wrestling head coach Barry Davis and Iowa All-American distance runner Nan (Doak) Davis, redshirted the 2015 cross country season for the Badgers.
During her prep career at Madison Edgewood High School, Davis won four state individual titles for the Crusaders. She won the WIAA Division 2 girls state cross country championship and placed 30th at the 2014 Foot Locker National Cross Country Championship during her senior year.
On the track in 2015, Davis defended her state title in the 1600 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 53.17 seconds, was runner-up in the 3200 meters in 10:46.21; and ran a leg on the Crusaders' 4x800-meter relay that won a state title. In addition, Davis also won the 3200 meters at the 2015 Kansas Relays during her senior year and was named the 2015 Wisconsin State Journal/WisconsinPrepZone.com All-Area Girls Athlete of the Year.
