Wisconsin returns to action after its first bye of the year
The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team, off to its best start in program history, heads north to Duluth, Minnesota, to take on the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Faceoff at AMSOIL Arena on Friday and Saturday is set for 3 p.m.
Key notes to consider
For the first time in program history, the Badgers are off to an 10-0-0 start, and through eight conference wins, holdfirst place in the WCHA.
The Cardinal and White currently hold an NCAA-record eight-straight shutouts.UW has held its opponents scoreless for the last 521 minutes, 15 seconds. UW's last goal given up was on Oct. 3 in the first period against Providence.
Sophomore Annie Pankowski leads the team in scoring, averaging 2.00 points per contest. She also leads the country in short-handed goals with three.
Ann-Renée Desbiens collected her 24th career shutout against Minnesota State on Oct. 31. After collecting two WCHA Defensive Player of the Week nods in as many weeks, Desbien was named October's WCHA Defensive Player of the Month.
Junior Jenny Ryan and senior Courtney Burke are tied for second in the NCAA for scoring among defensemen, averaging 1.20 points per contest.

Number of the week
8 -Wisconsin collected its eighth consecutive shutout on Oct. 31 against Minnesota State, earningthe longest streak in NCAA history. The shutout also marked junior goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens's NCAA leading seventh blank slate of the season.
The Series vs. Minnesota Duluth
The Badgers lead the overall series against the Bulldogs 34-29-12. In 75 all-time games, the two teams have squared off in 22 overtimes, the most against any other opponent, and five shootouts.
The Badgers are unbeaten against the Bulldogs in their last 10 meetings with an 8-0-2 record.
Wisconsin holds a 6-3-2-1 record against UMD at AMSOIL Arena.
The Badgers took the series 3-0-1 last year, as UW outscored UMD 15-3 in the four meetings. The Badgers also earned an additional point in WCHA standings after winning the shootout of their single tie.
Desbiens named WCHA Defensive Player of the Month
After receiving her second-consecutive WCHA Defensive Player of the Week nod, Ann-Renée Desbiens was named the league's Defensive Player of the Month on Nov. 5.
The Badgers' NCAA record eight straight shutouts were thanks in large part to Desbiens's nation-leading seven shutouts on the season.
A La Malbaie, Quebec native, her goals-against average (0.23) and save percentage (.985) are the best of all NCAA goalies, as well as being one of only three goaltenders to hold a perfect winning percentage.
Desbiens has not allowed a goal in the last 440 minutes and 52 seconds, which is the second-longest streak in NCAA men's or women's hockey. Only UW legend Jessie Vetter has a longer streak, recording 448:32 shutout minutes in the 2006-07 season.
Desbiens sits at 10th place in NCAA history with 24 career shutouts, while only trailing Vetter and Alex Rigsby in the UW record books for career shutouts. Last season, Desbiens tied Vetter's single-season school shutout record with 14 blank slates.
Desbiens named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
After sweeping MSU to improve to 10-0-0, Wisconsin women's hockey goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 26- Nov. 1, her second-consecutive week with the title.
Desbiens was a cut above the rest Halloween weekend for the No. 3 Badgers in their sweep of Minnesota State. The Badgers earned a 6-0 victory on Friday and a 7-0 victory on Saturday.
The La Malbaie, Quebec, native turned back shot after shot, denying all 16 attempts fired by the Mavericks on Friday night. Saturday's matinee proved to be of the same result as Desbiens stopped all 18 shots.
She received her ninth-career WCHA weekly honor, as she was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week three times her freshman season and was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week four times last year.
Desbiens was also honored the American Sports Network Women's Hockey Player of the Week, becoming the first player in WCHA history to receive the award.
Cogan named WCHA Rookieof the Week
Following a four-point weekend at MSU, Badger freshman Sam Cogan received her first weekly honors from the WCHA.
Cogan recorded a power-play goal and an assist in UW's 6-0 win on Friday, and tallied a pair of additional assists on the team's 7-0 victory the next day.
The Ottawa, Ontario native finished the weekend with a 3 rating, leading all WCHA freshmen and ranked third nationally with her four-point series.
Cogan has recorded nine points on four goals and five assists in ten games during her career with the Badgers.
Clark, Nurse selected to Team Canada's Four Nations Cup Roster
Wisconsin women's hockey forwards Emily Clark and Sarah Nurse, along with former UW captain Blayre Turnbull suited up for Team Canada at the 2015 Four Nations Cup in Sweden, while UW alums Brianna Decker, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Alex Rigsby and Jessie Vetter played for Team USA at the four-team international showcase.
The United States defeated Canada, 3-2, in overtime in the gold medal contest thanks to a pair of goals by Decker and the game-winning overtime tally by Knight.
Vetter picked up two wins for Team USA, playing in both games against Canada. Rigsby started the first game of the tournament against Sweden and earned the win in net for the Americans.
Duggan served as the captain for Team USA after serving as the squads captain at the 2015 IIHF World Championships and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Clark earned an assist in Canada's final game of pool play, as Clark, Nurse and Turnbull suited up in each of the games for Team Canada.

In front of a sellout crowd at LaBahn Arena, Wisconsin senior captain Blayre Turnbull made the most of her senior night, earning her first career hat trick as the No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team blanked No. 7 Minnesota Duluth, 5-0, on Feb. 7, 2015.
Turnbull became the second in school history to tally three power-play scores, lighting the lamp twice in the first frame before adding her third power-play goal of the night midway through the third.
Freshman Annie Pankowski tallied her first-career power-play strike and her team-leading 15th goal of the season, while linemate Emily Clark recorded UW's final goal of the night. UW junior Courtney Burke assisted on Wisconsin's first four goals to collect a career-best four assists in the victory.
The Badgers went 4-of-8 with a man advantage tonight, as their four power-play goals were a season-best.
Turnbull gave UW a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, going coast-to-coast before beating UMD netminder Kayla Black on the UW power play.
After a Burke rocket from the point on a Wisconsin power play, Pankowski buried the rebound to double the UW lead with just over two minutes left in the first frame.
Turnbull capped off UW's scoring in the first by pouncing on a Pankowski rebound to bury her second power-play goal of the period. The Badgers ended the period outshooting UMD 10-8, and went 3-of-4 on the man advantage.
After a scoreless second, Turnbull tallied her third midway through the final period to collect her first career hat trick. The UW captain beat UMD goaltender Evelina Sounpaa, who replaced Black after the first period, five hole to earn her 11th goal of the season.
Clark capped off the scoring, capitalizing on a Pankowski pass to record her ninth tally of the season.
The Badgers outshot the Bulldogs 31-20, including a 14-6 advantage in the final period.
Sophomore goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens pitched her second-straight shutout, stopping all 20 saves in the win.

For the first time in program history, the No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team is off to a 10-0-0 start after defeating Minnesota State, 7-0, on Saturday at the Verizon Wireless Center.
The Badgers earned their eighth-straight shutout in the triumph, which is the longest streak in WCHA history. The Badgers have not allowed a goal in the past 521 minutes, 15 seconds, a streak that started on Oct. 3 in the first period of UW's 8-1 win over Providence in San Jose, California.
Through their first 10 games, the Badgers have outscored opponents a combined 55-2.
Junior Ann-Renée Desbiens earned her seventh shutout of the season, stopping all 18 Minnesota State shots she encountered. She now sits in 10th place in NCAA history with 24 career shutouts, while her 46 wins rank fifth in program history.
After a slow start, the Badgers scored four times in a six minute, 13 second span in the first period to take a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Junior MellissaChannell got the scoring going for Wisconsin, launching a rocket past MSU netminder Brianna Quade on UW's first power-play of the game to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, freshman Sophia Shaver collected the first short-handed goal of her career, sneaking the puck past Quade to double the UW lead. Wisconsin has now scored six short-handed goals this year, while allowing one power-play goal.
With under four minutes to play in the first, Baylee Wellhausen scored her third goal in as many games to lift UW to a 3-0 lead. The Williams Bay, Wisconsin, native scored on a one-on-one after Annie Pankowski threaded a pass through the MSU defense to Wellhausen.
Senior captain Courtney Burke capped off the first period scoring for UW, launching a laser top shelf, marking her second goal of the series.
The second period was quiet as Minnesota State outshot UW 8-4, but the Badgers' offense woke up in the third.
Just 30 seconds into the final frame, Rachel Jones pounced on a rebound and fired it low into the net to give UW a 5-0 advantage.
On UW's second power-play of the game, Sydney McKibbon tipped in a Pankowski rocket. It marked the fourth power-play goal of the weekend for Wisconsin.
Shaver scored her second of the game with just over 11 minutes left in the third, marking her first multi-point effort for UW.
Pankowski now has a 13-game point streak, which is tied for the seventh-longest in school history. The sophomore leads Wisconsin with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points this year. Wisconsin outshot Minnesota State 31-18.
Note of the Week
Wisconsin goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens now has 24 shutouts in her career, which ranks third in program history. Her 440 minute, 52second shutout streak this season is just shy of UW legend Jessie Vetter's 448:32 minute streak during the 2006-07 season.
