
Weiss wins 400 IM at U.S. Open

        MADISON, Wis. – Continuing a summer of phenomenal swimming, senior Michael        Weiss won the 400-meter IM at the U.S. Open Thursday night in Indianapolis.
        
        Weiss’ time of 4:15.79 in the finals, not only gave him a 2.12-margin of victory,        but is the 23rd fastest time in the world this year.
        
        A total of 10 Badger swimmers have competed in the U.S Open, which started on Tuesday and        runs until Saturday, Aug. 11.
        
        Weiss has also competed in the 400 free, taking ninth place with a time of 3:53.62, and in        both the 400 and 800 free relay with Badger teammates Tyler        Hines, Garrett        Mulchrone and Drew        TeDuits. The 400 free relay team clocked in with a time of 3:26.61 in the preliminaries        and finished 10th in the finals with 3:30.04. In the 800 free relay, they recorded a time        of 7:32.85, before taking seventh in the finals with a time of 7:42.39.
        
        Individually, Hines recorded a time of 4:01.78 in the 400 free prelims, Mulchrone touched        in at 56.19 in the 100 fly prelims, and TeDuits earned a seventh-place finish in the 200        back with a time of 1:59.68.
        
        Marcus        Guttmann has also raced at the U.S. Open, taking 16th in the 200 fly (2:01.25) on the        opening day and placing 23rd in the 400 free (4:00.17) on Wednesday.
        
        On the women’s side, the 400 free relay team consisting of Ruby        Martin, Aja Van        Hout, Ivy        Martin and Hannah        Ross took third place with a time of 3:46.67. A slightly different relay team also        found success in the 800 free relay, as Monika        Stitski partnered with Ruby        Martin, Van Hout and Ross to claim sixth place with a time of 8:20.20.
        
        On the opening day before swimming in the 400 free relay, Van Hout took 14th place in the        100 free with a time of (56.44). Ruby        Martin also swam in the 100 free and recorded a time of 57.24 in the prelims.
        
        Ross and Stitski competed in the 200 back on Wednesday, as Ross swam a 2:13.82 for an        11th-place finish, while Stitski posted a time of 2:17.18 in the prelims.
        
        Stitski and Van Hout swam in the 400 IM on Thursday. Stitski took 16th place with a time of        4:58.12 and Van Hout recorded a time of 4:59.15 for 26th place.
        
        There are 14 more events to be held at the U.S. Open, as competition runs through Saturday        at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
