MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin volleyball team put its rally caps on Friday night in hopes it would spoil Nebraska's first match against the Badgers as members of the Big Ten Conference. In the end, the comeback effort came up short as the fifth-ranked Huskers swept the Badgers 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 in front of 5,622 fans at the UW Field House.
Wisconsin falls to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten while Nebraska improves to 13-1 and 7-0.

Freshman Ellen Chapman led the Badgers with eight kills, while three different players -- Janelle Gabrielsen, Dominique Thompson and Crystal Graff -- scored on seven kills each. Nebraska's Hannah Werth led all players with 17 putaways.
The Huskers had the overall advantage in kills over the Badgers, 46-43. Nebraska hit .330 (46 kills - 9 errors - 112 attempts) as a team while keeping the Badgers to .179 (43-22-117), including a .000 hitting percentage in the second set.
The Huskers also outblocked the Badgers 8.0-5.0 led by Jordan Wilberger's three block solos. Freshman Courtney Thomas recorded two solo stuffs of her own for Wisconsin, leading the UW with three total blocks..
Wisconsin outdug Nebraska 50-48, led by sophomore Annemarie Hickey with 14 saves. Thomas had 11 digs and 17 assists for her 10th double-double of the season, while Chapman finished with a career-high 10 saves.
After two of Gina Mancuso's 13 kills gave Nebraska the lead early in the first set, the Badgers responded with two of their own from Gabrielsen and Graff. The teams would then trade leads to tie the score for the next three points before the Huskers went on a 4-0 run to lead 10-6.
The Badgers trailed by as many as six points in the opening frame but rallied to make the score 21-20 and force a Nebraska timeout. After Wisconsin's 4-0 run toward the end of the first set, Nebraska capitalized on three consecutive Badger errors to win it.
In the second set, Wisconsin scored one more kill than Nebraska, led by Thomas with three. But the Badgers also finished with 10 more errors in the middle frame. Nebraska recorded seven blocks in the second set as they never trailed.
The Badgers came out stronger in the third set, finishing with a better hitting percentage and fewer errors than the Huskers. After tying the score at six consecutive points,
Wisconsin used a 3-0 run to take its largest lead of the match at 10-8. Nebraska went on a 4-0 run, gaining back the lead at 12-10, but Wisconsin fought back, tying the score at 13-13. UW pulled within two points a 23-21 but a kill from Werth and another UW hitting error gave the Huskers the match.
The Badgers continue their homestand on Sunday when they host Iowa at 1 p.m.
