MADISON, Wis. -- Sophomore Caitlin Comfort represented Wisconsin with a 70th-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind.
Comfort was named an individual qualifier and was the only Badger to compete in the national meet. The sophomore finished the 6-kilometer race with a time of 21:06 to cross the line 70th out of 254 runners.
As a freshman, Comfort qualified for the NCAA meet and placed 198th overall in a time of 21:58. This season Comfort managed to shave 52 seconds off her time and advance 128 spots from her finish in last year’s race.
Comfort has consistently finished first for the Badgers in five races this season. For the second-consecutive year, she earned second-team All-Big Ten accolades.
The Peoria, Ill., native was eligible to compete in the NCAA championships after a top-25 finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Earlier in the season, Comfort finished 10th at the Big Ten Championship, which was a two-spot improvement on her 2008 finish. She also earned an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bloomington, Ind., last weekend.
