A.J. Van Handel enters his 13th season serving as the video coordinator for men’s basketball and his 20th year on the UW staff in 2025-26

Van Handel also spent three seasons as the program assistant and was a team manager for four seasons with the Badgers prior to that.

In his current role, Van Handel is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the team’s film and video needs, including opponent scouting, coordinating film exchange, managing the video room and assisting the coaching staff in breaking down game and practice film. In addition, he runs the day-to-day operations of the Badger Boys Summer Basketball Camps.

In his first two seasons as the video coordinator at UW, Van Handel was on the bench for the Badgers' back-to-back Final Four teams. During those two campaigns Wisconsin posted a combined record of 66-12 (.846) and claimed both the 2015 Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. During his sixteen years at Wisconsin, the Badgers have won three regular season Big Ten championships, two Big Ten tournament titles, and have made 13 NCAA tournament appearances, including seven Sweet Sixteens.

A native of Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, Van Handel earned his bachelor's degree in history and political science from Wisconsin in 2010. In addition to serving as a student assistant coach for two seasons at Ashwaubenon High School, Van Handel has worked the UW Boys Basketball Camps every summer since 2007.
