Noakes leads team with top-10 finish
CHICAGO – The No. 10 Wisconsin men's cross country team finished 8th on Friday at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Chicago.
The Wisconsin men were led by Archie Noakes (23:03.80), who finished 10th with a 55-second personal best. Micah Wilson (23:11.73) was next to cross the finish line, placing 15th. Both runners featured personal bests in their season debut, while the Badgers rested their top-four finishers from last week's competition.
Manny Putz (23:34.36) finished 35th, and Nick Gilles (23:43.43) moved up 37 places in the final 3K to secure 65th. Cillian Gleeson (23:49.88) and Logan Measner (24:01.55) were the next Badgers to finish, crossing the line at 82nd and 97th, respectively.
The Badgers' eighth-place finish was enough to defeat Big Ten rival Washington, ranked 13th in the USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will return home to wrap up regular-season racing with the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The women's "A" race is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men's "A" race to follow at 11:10 a.m. The meet features 20 ranked men's teams and 18 ranked women's teams.
