Badgers begin in Maryland
MADISON, Wis. — No. 14 Wisconsin women's soccer (6-1-2, 2-0-1 Big Ten) start a three game road trip on Thursday, Sept. 24, as they travel to face Maryland (3-5-1, 0-3-0) at Ludwig Field in College Park. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers face the Terrapins
1. History with Maryland
Wisconsin has controlled the series since Maryland joined the Big Ten, holding a 7-0-2 record against the Terrapins. The Badgers have won each of the last five meetings and are 3-0-1 when playing Maryland in College Park.
The teams last met on Oct. 20, 2024, when Wisconsin earned a 5-0 victory at McClimon. The Badgers' most recent trip to College Park came in 2023, resulting in a 3-0 Wisconsin win.
2. Know the TerrapinsMaryland enters Thursday 3-5-1 overall and 0-3-0 in Big Ten play. The Terrapins opened the year 2-0-1 but have dropped five of their last six, including their first three conference matches against Washington, Oregon and Penn State.
Maryland has scored seven goals through nine matches, with Jolie Farmer accounting for four of them. The Terps average 10.1 shots per game and have put 39 of their 91 attempts on goal.
Goalkeeper Faith Luckey is coming off a season-high eight saves against Penn State, including a penalty-kick save in the 68th minute.
3. Freshmen Making an ImpactWisconsin's freshman class continues to make an immediate impact this season. KK Panella became the latest freshman to find the back of the net, scoring just 33 seconds into Wisconsin's 2-0 win over Indiana.
Izy Traub has emerged as one of the Badgers' top playmakers, while Margaret Sisk and Jane Rogers have also provided consistent production in the attack. Panella and Rogers have been regulars in the starting lineup, giving Wisconsin's freshman class a significant role on both sides of the ball.
4. Last time outWisconsin earned its second consecutive Big Ten victory with a 2-0 win over Indiana on Sunday at McClimon.
Panella wasted no time putting Wisconsin ahead, scoring just 33 seconds into the match off an assist from Traub. Erin Connolly doubled the lead in the 20th minute off an assist from Hailey Baumann, giving Connolly a goal in back-to-back matches.
Wisconsin outshot Indiana 13-6 and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. The victory extended the Badgers' unbeaten streak to seven matches and moved them to 2-0-1 in conference play.
