Onwunili Advances to 100-Meter Final at Penn Relays

Badgers split day two of competition between Philadelphia and Des Moines
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team continued competition Friday with a split squad at the Penn relays and Drake Relays, highlighted by a strong showing from sprinter Joshua Onwunili.
At the Penn Relays, Josh Onwunili ran the sixth-fastest 100 meters in the qualifying round, crossing the line in 10.28 seconds to advance to Saturday's final. Wisconsin also competed in the distance medley relay, where the quartet of Patrick Hilby, Zion Omotesa, Henry Risser and Matan Ivri did not finish.
In the field events at the Drake Relays, Nathlan Nelson led the way with a fifth-place finish in the championships pole vault, clearing 17 feet, 1 inch (5.21 meters) in with a personal record of 0.3 meters. The Rochester, Minnesota native's mark is currently tied for 11th in the Big Ten and is tied for No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region. Augustus Counard-Ciechanowski added an 11th-place finish in the university/college pole vault, clearing 15-9 ¼ (4.81m).
In the university/college shot put, Kyle Clabough took 8th with a toss of 54-9 1/4 (16.69m), while Jake Schafer placed 14th in the discus with a throw of 161-10 (49.34m).
Up Next: Wisconsin will wrap up action at the Penn Relays and Drake Relays on Saturday. UW will compete in the 4xMile at Penn at 12:05 p.m. CT while Onwunili will compete in the 100-meter final at 2:55 p.m. CT. Fans can watch both events on FloTrack. Senior Jacob Zednik will compete at the Drake Relays at 1:50 p.m. CT in the javelin.
