Junior collects her first-career conference weekly award
MADISON, Wis. – Hilary Blomberg of the Wisconsin softball team has been named Big Ten Softball Player of the Week for her performances in the three-game sweep over Maryland, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The Verona, Wis. native picks up her first-career conference weekly award after helping the Badgers to a 3-0 weekend over the Maryland Terrapins. Blomberg went 6-for-8 (.750 batting average), including three home runs, and two total in game three of the series. The walk-off, three-run home run on Sunday marked her 30th of her career. Her 30 home runs currently ranks for third-most in program history with Katie Hnatyk (2005-07) and Shannel Blackshear (2010-13). She is just the fifth Badger to hit 30 or more home runs in a career for the Badgers.
Blomberg also led the team with seven RBI, 15 total bases and collected three walks. She also totaled a 1.875 slugging percentage and .833 on-base percentage. Defensively, the junior catcher also added a caught stealing for her sixth of her career.
Wisconsin hits the road this week as they take on the Purdue Boilermakers for a three-game series beginning Thursday, April 2.
