Badgers shut out in outdoor home opener
MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 18 Michigan in its outdoor home opener on Sunday morning.
In doubles, Wisconsin came out with strong energy in doubles, building early leads across the courts, but Michigan responded with a few key breaks to take control. At No. 1, Ekaterina Ivanova and Ellison Reynoldson fell 6-3. No. 3 Kaja Jacobson and Tianna Rangan dropped shortly after, giving the Wolverines the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Badgers continued to compete throughout singles play, with several close matches on court. Maria Sholokhova bounced back after dropping the first set to take the second, 6-2. Ekaterina Ivanova also battled back in her second set, erasing a 2-4 deficit to force a 6-6 tie before her match went unfinished. Kaede Usui picked up a first-set tiebreak win to give Wisconsin early momentum. Michigan was able to pull ahead at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles positions to extend its lead. At No. 2, Ellison Reynoldson fought through a tight match but ultimately fell in the final set, clinching the match for the Wolverines.
