Wisconsin prevails over Michigan State

Badgers start the weekend off strong against the Spartans
MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin women's tennis proved its dominance on Friday afternoon in a strong match against the Michigan State Spartans, winning 4-2. The team now holds a 5-2 record in conference play.
In doubles, No. 2 Maria Sholokhova and Kaede Usui continued their undefeated streak as a pair, grabbing a 6-4 win over their Spartan opponents. After Tianna Rangan and Kaja Jacobson dropped their match, it came down to No. 1 Ellison Reynoldson and Ekaterina Ivanova. The pair battled through multiple breaks to even the score at 4-4, but the Spartans edged the Badgers to take the lead and clinch the doubles point.
Starting singles play strong was Kaede Usui, who dominated her opponent and served up her first bagel of the season. Maria Sholokhova followed with a win to put the Badgers up 2-1 and improve to 8-3 at No. 1 singles on the season. Ellison Reynoldson put up a hard fight in the second set, battling back and forth before ultimately coming out on top to push the Badgers closer to the match win.
It came down to the wire with a third-set nail-biter for Kaja Jacobson. At 5-all, Jacobson secured the break before closing out the set and clinching the match for the Badgers.
