Wisconsin competes in three events
ATLANTA — The Wisconsin men's swim team closed out the third day of competition at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, highlighted by a school record in the 400 medley relay.
In the day's relay event, the quartet of Nathan Welker, Ben Wiegand, Charlie Jones and Luukas Vainio finished in 3:05.03 to set a new school record. Seniors Wiegand and Jones wrapped up their collegiate careers with strong splits; Jones shaved over half a second off of his personal best 100 butterfly split as Wiegand set a new personal best in his breaststroke split to cover the distance in 51.37.
In the individual events, senior Dominik Mark Torok got the Badgers started in the 200 breaststroke, finishing just shy of his personal best in 1:53.97 for a 24th-place finish. Sophomore Yoav Romano and freshman Enzo Solitario stacked on finishes in the 500 freestyle, coming in at 4:16.98 and 4:18.31, respectively.
Competition will come to a close tomorrow with the 200 IM, 100 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. (CT) and finals start at 5 p.m. (CT).
