Three Wisconsin Athletes named to US National Team
MADISON, Wis – USA Swimming announced the 2026-2027 United States National Swim Team, featuring two current Badgers of the Wisconsin men's swimming team and women's swimming team, Enzo Solitario and Maggie Wanezek, and alumna Phoebe Bacon. The trio will represent the United States at competitive events beginning October 2026.
Entering his sophomore year, Solitario secured his spot on the US National Team with his time of 1:54.99 in the Men's 200m butterfly at the 2026 Toyota USA Swimming National Championships. Previously, he competed in the 2026 NCAA Championships and finished third in the 200 freestyle at the Big Ten Championships. Solitario was named to the 2026 All-Big Ten Second Team and the 2026 All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
Junior Wanezek earned second place in the Women's 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke at the 2026 Toyota USA Swimming National Championships. With Wisconsin, she finished runner-up in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke at the 2026 NCAA Championships. At the Big Ten Championships in February 2026, Wanezek set a Big Ten meet record of 1:48.94 in the 200 backstroke.
Wanezek was named to the 2026 First Team All-Big Ten. In 2025, she was named to the Second Team All-Big Ten and Freshman All-Big Ten.
Two-time Olympian and Badger alumna, Bacon now records six appearances on the US National Team. She earned fourth place in the Women's 100m backstroke at the 2026 Toyota USA Swimming National Championships.
Bacon's highly decorated career resume includes first place in the 200 backstroke at the 2021 NCAA Championships and again in 2024. She earned numerous Big Ten recognitions such as 2024 Big Ten First team, 2023 All-Big Ten Second Team and 2021 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Bacon finished fourth in the 200m backstroke at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and fifth in the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
