Badger captain makes top-three for second straight year
MADISON, Wis -Â Wisconsin women's hockey senior captain Caroline Harvey has been named as a 2026 Patty Kazmaier Award top-three finalist, USA Hockey announced this Wednesday.
This is Harvey's second consecutive time being named a top-three finalist, making the cut last season alongside Badger teammates Casey O'Brien and Laila Edwards. O'Brien won the 2025 honor, the sixth Badger to win the award.Â
A native of Salem., New Hampshire, Harvey was recently named Olympic MVP after leading Team USA to gold at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics this February as her nine points were tied for the most of the tournament. It marked her second appearance at the Winter Olympics after helping the U.S. to silver at the 2022 Winter Olympics.Â
Harvey has 61 points in only 30Â games this season, and is only two points shy of matching her school record for most points by a defender of 63 set last year.Â
This past weekend at the WCHA Final Faceoff, the three-time All-American was announced as the WCHA Player and Defender of the Year. The defender is third in the nation in points. She is also two points away from surpassing 200 points in her career - already the WCHA's all-time defensive point scorer.Â
Harvey is joined by fellow U.S. Olympians Abbey Murphy of Minnesota and Tessa Janecke of Penn State as top-three finalists.Â
Wisconsin has produced six Patty Kazmaier Award winners, tied with Harvard for the most of any program.
The winner of the 2026 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award will be announced on Saturday, March 21, at 11:30 a.m. CT as part of a live show in NHL Network at the HUB-Robeson Center on the campus of Penn State University.Â
Harvey and the No. 2 Badgers will take on the winner of Thursday's Quinnipiac and Franklin Pierce game this Saturday at LaBahn Arena at 1 p.m. If UW is to advance, they will compete in the 2026 NCAA Women's Frozen Four in State College, Pa. The final award winner will also be announced at the Frozen Four.Â
