Minnesota native hits program record nine three-pointers
SEATTLE — Senior Braeden Carrington hit a program record nine three-pointers to lift Wisconsin over Washington, 90-73, on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
The Minnesota native finished with a career-high 32 points, draining nine-of-15 triples. It's the most points for a Badger off the bench since at least 2004-05, with Rob Wilson being the other to do so in 2012. Carrington tallied four assists, four rebounds and a steal, to boot. The Badgers (20-9, 12-6 Big Ten) were spraying the net with a season-high 17 threes, while six players cashed in from behind the arc.Â
Nick Boyd got back into form with 22 points on 11-of-20 shooting, while matching a career-high 9 rebounds. He dished out five assists, as well. The New York native is now up to 18 20-plus point performances this year, good for second in the Big Ten.
Nolan Winter added 13 points, grabbing nine boards of his own. He was 3-of-5 from deep, as UW's big man trio hit six threes on the day.Â
The Badgers got out to a hot start, going on a 12-3 run on the strength of three blow-by layups for Boyd. They kept the pace, earning an early double digit lead thanks to Carrington's first two triples of the night. They didn't falter from there, taking a 36-21 lead into halftime.Â
UW's offense exploded in the second half, going for 54 points - the second highest scoring half of the season. Carrington dropped six triples in the period, as UW finished 17-of-38 from beyond the arc. UW posted 90 points overall, marking the 19th game with over 80 points, going undefeated in those contests.Â
Up Next: Wisconsin returns home for its final home game of the season on Wednesday vs. Maryland. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are still available on UWBadgers.Com.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for Senior Day festivities as UW will honor Isaac Gard, Nick Boyd, Braeden Carrington, Andrew Rohde and seven student managers.
