Badgers Sit Tied for Third After Day Two at Big Ten Championships

Hilby, Williams advance as Jones II records top-five heptathlon finish
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team closed out day two of the 2026 Big Ten Indoor Championships in a tie for third place with 17 points inside the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Through two days of competition, Oregon leads the team standing with 48 points, followed by Iowa with 23 points. Michigan and Wisconsin sit tied for third with 17 points apiece.
In the 60 meters, sophomore Joshua Onwunili clocked 6.70 seconds in the first round to finish 10th overall. With the performance, Onwunili moved from seventh into a tie for fifth all-time in school history alongside B.J. Tucker in the Wisconsin record book.
Jalen Williams punched his ticket to the 400-meter final, running 45.94 to place fifth overall and automatically qualify for Saturday's championship heat.
Patrick Hilby continued his strong indoor campaign in the 800 meters, finishing second in the first round with a time of 1:47.06 to advance to the final. The performance improved upon his previous personal best by three-tenths of a second, allowing him to replace himself at No. 2 on Wisconsin's all-time list. Andrew Casey also competed in the event, finishing 15th in 1:49.49.
In the mile, Liam Newhart secured his spot in the final with a qualifying performance of 4:01.29, placing fifth in the opening round.
The Badgers wrapped up the heptathlon Friday evening, highlighted by a fifth-place overall finish from Darius Jones II, who totaled 5,385. Jones II added strong efforts in the final three events of the competition, including an 8.50 in the 60-meter hurdles, a clearance of 14 feet, 5 ¼ inches (4.40m) in the pole vault and a 2:53.92 finish in the 1000 meters.
Jack Schmeling placed 13th overall with a personal-best total of 4,934 points. He recorded marks of 9.04 in the 60-meter hurdles, 12-5 ½ (3.80m) in the pole vault and capped the competition with a 2:51.38 in the 1000 meters.
