Dorja Zaja ties her career-high with 16 points
LOS ANGELES — The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-15, 5-12 B1G) battled on the West Coast but fell 80–60 to UCLA (27-1, 17-0 B1G) on Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.
Dorja Zaja led the Badgers with 16 points on an efficient 7-for-12 shooting night, while Lily Krahn added 13 points by knocking down three triples. Ronnie Porter and Gift Uchenna each contributed eight points, with Uchenna pulling down a team-high five rebounds.
How it happened
UCLA jumped out quickly, using an early 8–0 run to build momentum. Wisconsin found a spark off the bench from Zaja, who scored eight first-quarter points to keep the Badgers within reach. Wisconsin tightened defensively and played the Bruins even in the quarter. Krahn, Porter and Uchenna all contributed buckets but UCLA maintained control - heading into halftime with a 41–29 advantage.
Wisconsin delivered its most productive stretch offensively, scoring 20 points in the frame and shooting 46%. Krahn found a rhythm from deep while Porter facilitated the offense, but UCLA answered with 24 points to extend the margin entering the fourth. The Badgers continued to compete down the stretch, but UCLA controlled the boards and second-chance opportunities to close out the 80–60 result.Â
Wisconsin finished shooting 39.7% from the field (23-58), 34.6% from three (9-26) and 83.3% (5-8) from the line. UCLA ended shooting 41.8% from the field (28-67), 33.3% from deep (10-30) and 73.7% (4-19) from the line.Â
