Howell tallies 23 points on Senior Day
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's basketball team (13-16, 5-13 B1G) dropped its regular season finale versus No. 9 Iowa (24-5, 15-3 B1G), 81-52, on Senior Day at the Kohl Center.
Destiny Howell led the way for the Badgers in her last game in Madison, tallying a team-high 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. The Hawkeyes went on to outscore Wisconsin 48-23 in the second half en route to a victory to close out the conference slate.Â
How it Happened
The first quarter saw a back-and-forth affair, highlighted by a nine-point burst from Howell. After an Iowa 9-0 run at the end of the session, Nikki Kerstein converted on a half court heave at the buzzer—cutting the deficit to 19-16 after one.Â
Lily Krahn and Howell nailed back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the second quarter, giving the Badgers a 24-23 advantage with just under five minutes left in the half. Howell continued to make her presence felt on the offensive end—turning in 17 first half points on 5-of-11 shooting.Â
The Hawkeyes took a four-point lead into the break, as the Badgers trailed 33-29 entering the second half of action.Â
Iowa came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring UW 26-9 in the period. The Hawkeyes nailed six 3-pointers in the process to make it 59-38 heading into the fourth quarter.Â
Wisconsin made a late push with the help of a pair of 3-pointers from Kyrah Daniels, but it was not enough as Iowa secured a win in the regular season finale.Â
The Badgers finished shooting 30.2%(19-63) from the field, 24.1% (7-29) from three and 87.5 (7-8) from the line. Iowa finished 53.0% (35-66) from the field, 45.0% (9-20) from the three and 50.0% (2-4) from the line.Â
