Eden scores 100th career goal with five-point hat trick
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team (28-3-2, 22-3-2) defeated the St. Cloud Huskies at LaBahn Arena this Saturday with a score of 9-2. The Badgers can now clinch the WCHA regular season championship outright with a win in their final regular season game tomorrow.
Fifth year Lacey Eden became the fourth Badger in program history to record 100+ goals. She did so with a three goal, two assist performance. Joining her with a hat trick was junior Kelly Gorbatenko, who scored four goals in the victory.
Freshman Charlotte Pieckenhagen opened up the scoring tab for UW, putting in a rebound off a Laney Potter shot just four minutes into the game.
Eden tallied her 100th goal at the beginning of the second period, making it 3-1. Eden deflected a shot from Emma Venusio.
Gorbatenko then collected her first ever career hat-trick with back-to-back goals in the second. Her first goal was a strong back-hander that sailed over the shoulder of the goalie's stick-side. The second came from a great passing sequence with Vivian Jungels and Eden, making it 5-1.
To punctuate the second period, Pieckenhagen made it 6-1 with nine seconds remaining, her second score of the game.
Eden added another to her total as she opened up the third period. The Badgers had a 7-1 lead before a Husky found her way into the back of the net. Moments later, Eden scored her third goal of the game and collected her second career hat trick.
With 7:24 remaining in the game, senior goaltender Chloe Baker entered the net and recorded five saves.Â
Gorbatenko completed her outstanding game with an unassisted goal with thirty seconds remaining.
UW outshot 58-17 and freshman goaltender Rhyah Stewart 10 saves.

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On today's win
"Overall, we had good energy, we had our legs moving and the puck moving for most of the 60 minutes. From start to finish, it was a good game. It was a good complete game and I'm happy with the way we came out with our energy."
On Lacey Eden's performance:
"There's been hard days, adversity and real tough lessons that we've had to walk through. So for her, she's earned everything she's gotten and I feel excited for her to get what she was able to get today in front of her home crowd, and I think they [the fans] recognize that, too."
Fifth-year Lacey Eden
On her hat trick:
"It's really all about the team and playing together. It was a really fun game to play in, we played a complete game for 60 minutes. They came out pretty hard in the first period, and we were able to get over that, work hard and it showed up on the scoreboard for us."
On scoring her 100th goal:
"Those three are girls I've looked up to since I was a little kid. I've had the honor to play with two of them and they've been such big inspirations for me as a Badger and throughout my hockey career, so it's really cool to be on that shortlist with them.Â
Junior Kelly Gorbatenko
On her linemates:
"I was really trying to shoot the puck more, but all the goals were great efforts from our line and from other girls: Lacey keeping the puck in, Cassie for checking hard, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time."
