Freshman Brooke Corrigan sets two school records on the third day of B1G Championships
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The No. 15 Wisconsin women's swim and dive team finished strong on the third day of competition at the Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis.
Highlighted by Big Ten Champion Maggie Wanezek in the 100 back and Brooke Corrigan's school records in the 100 and 200 breast, Wisconsin (650 pts) sits in fourth place overall, 74.5 points behind No. 11 Ohio State in second. No. 8 Michigan leads with a score of 883.
How it happened:
Sophomore Wanezek's 49.71 finish to start the night crowned her Big Ten Champion in the 100 back, keeping the title in Madison for the second year in a row.
Wisconsin showed its depth in the 200 breaststroke, led by Corrigan's school-record 2:07.29 time in the A final to earn a runner-up finish. Hazal Ozkan and Catherine Hughes finished shortly behind with a sixth and eighth place finish, respectively. Stella Chapman put up an impressive finish in the event's consolation final, swimming a personal best 2:09.84 to win the heat.
Senior Blair Stoneburg held strong in the distance freestyle, earning a sixth-place finish in the 500 free in 4:42.18. Junior Maddie Waggoner collected a 13th-place finish in 4:45.29.
The Badgers closed out the night with a bronze medal finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:29.19. Corrigan swam a blistering 58.95 split in the breaststroke leg to break her own school record that she had set yesterday.
Up next: Competition finishes up tomorrow with the 200 IM, 100 free, 200 fly, 200 back, 1,650 free and platform diving. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals at 5:30 p.m. (CT).
