Badger duo picks up national awards for September and October performance
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin women's hockey senior Cassie Hall and freshman Nela Lopušanová earned HCA monthly honors following a strong start to the season, the organization announced on Friday.
Hall picked up HCA Co-Forward of the Month honors, while Lopušanová earned HCA Rookie of the Month. It marks the first time in both of their careers that Hall and Lopušanová have taken home an HCA monthly award.
Earlier in the week, Hall was named the WCHA Forward of the Month and Lopušanová the WCHA Rookie of the Month. This comes as no surprise, as the duo currently leads the country in points with 21, each tallying 10 goals and 11 assists through the first 10 games.
Hailing from South Lyon, Michigan, nine of Hall's 10 goals came during an eight-game goal streak, which matched the program's second-longest goal streak. The forward has posted seven multi-point games, including a season-high four-point outing against Minnesota State on Oct. 17.
Lopušanová doubled her goal total in a successful outing against St. Cloud State on Oct. 31, as she became just the second Badger and second freshman in NCAA history to score five goals in a game. A two-time WCHA Rookie of the Week in October, Lopušanová has enjoyed six multi-point performances in her first 10 games as Badger.
