Cassie Hall and Nela Lopušanová pick up first monthly honors of the season
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin women's hockey senior Cassie Hall and freshman Nela Lopušanová earned WCHA monthly honors for their strong performances in September and October, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Hall was named the WCHA Forward of the Month for the first time in her career, while Lopušanová also received her first monthly honors as she took home WCHA Rookie of the Month.
A senior from South Lyon, Michigan, Hall enjoyed a 21-point (10G, 11A) stint in September and October, tying for the lead throughout the NCAA with teammate Lopušanová. Nine of Hall's 10 goals came during an eight-game goal streak, which matched the program's second-longest goal streak. She not only found scoring opportunities, but created them as she tallied 11 assists. The forward has posted seven multi-point games, including a season-high four-point outing against Minnesota State on Oct. 17. Hall previously earned WCHA Rookie of the Month honors in Sept. 2023 and Jan. 2024.
Lopušanová settled into college hockey quickly, tallying an NCAA-best 21 points (10G, 11A) in September and October, leading the nation alongside teammate Cassie Hall. The Žilina, Slovakia, native doubled her goal total in a successful outing against St. Cloud State on Oct. 31, as she became just the second Badger and second freshman in NCAA history to score five goals in a game. A two-time WCHA Rookie of the Week in October, Lopušanová has enjoyed six multi-point performances in her first 10 games as Badger.
Minnesota Duluth's Ève Gascon picked up WCHA Goaltender of the Month, while WCHA Defender of the Month went to Ohio State's Mira Jungåker.
Wisconsin returns to action with a home series against St. Thomas. Nov. 14-15. The Badgers will host the Tommies Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m., before wrapping up their first home series in a month on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.
