MADISON, Wis. — The No. 7 Wisconsin volleyball team (10-4, 4-0) prepares to hit the road for a pair of ranked conference opponents, taking on No. 24 Illinois (11-4, 3-1) on Oct. 8 before taking on No. 1 Nebraska (15-0, 4-0) on Oct. 10.
Wisconsin is slated to take on Illinois at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Urbana-Champaign, before continuing its road stint to meet top-ranked Nebraska for a 6 p.m. showdown on Saturday.
Illinois enters the week with a 3-1 record in conference play, having most recently dropped a four-set match to No. 17 Oregon. Against the Fighting Illini, Wisconsin holds a narrow 24-23 edge on the road, and will look to extend their 12-match win streak over Illinois.
After the Thursday night battle, Wisconsin will take on an undefeated Nebraska in away territory. The Cornhuskers enter the week as one of two teams in the NCAA to remain undefeated, picking up 15 wins thus far. In Lincoln, Nebraska holds a 13-4 edge over the Badgers.
Freshman Audrey Flanagan picked up her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after a standout weekend against No. 15 Indiana and No. 20 Minnesota. The freshman led the Badger offense with back-to-back double-figure kills, tallying 31 total across the weekend. Through the nine sets played, Flanagan averaged 3.44 kills per set, 3.94 points per set and added 1.78 digs per set.
Against Indiana, Wisconsin earned a hard-fought five-set victory to remain undefeated at the Field House this season, good for their 20th straight win over the Hoosiers. Middle blocker Jaela Auguste hit a season-best 11 kills on 19 swings (11-1-19), while also posting a season-best .526 hitting percentage.
On Sunday, the Badgers wrapped up the weekend with a four-set victory over the Gophers. UW tallied its fourth match with double-digit block totals, earning 12.5 blocks to the Gophers' 7.5, as defensive specialist Kristen Simon surpassed the 500 career dig mark.
