Stellar freshman performances lead to conference award
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin volleyball's Audrey Flanagan has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her performances against two ranked foes, announced by the Big Ten Monday afternoon.
Wisconsin defeated two more ranked opponents, seventh so far this season, last week against No. 15 Indiana and No. 20 Minnesota, and was led by outside hitter Audrey Flanagan.
Flanagan paced the Badger offense with back-to-back double-figure kill performances, tallying 31 total kills while also clipping a .329 (31-7-73) hitting percentage. Against the Hoosiers, the 6-foot-3 outside hitter collect 17 kills and then 14 against Minnesota respectively.
The freshman averaged 3.44 kills per set, 3.94 points per set, and added 1.78 digs per set. Flanagan now has eight matches this season with double-figure kill totals. This marks Flanagan's first-career Big Ten honor.
Wisconsin will hit the road again this week as the team prepares for Illinois and Nebraska this weekend beginning Thursday, October 8.
