Wisconsin loses third game to Huskies, 6-2
SEATTLE - The Wisconsin softball team (22-15, 6-7) dropped its series finale against Washington, losing 6-2. The Badgers were swept in the series.
Wisconsin played with a lead for a good portion of the game, up 2-0 after two solo home runs from Hilary Blomberg. A few big innings from the Huskies, however, shifted momentum, and led to the Washington sweep.
Blomberg's first home run came in the top of the first inning, putting the Badgers on the board with two outs.
Neither team would score again until the fourth inning, when Blomberg struck again. This time, hitting a lead off home run to give Wisconsin a 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin's starter, Gabi Salo, didn't give up any hits through the first three innings. Washington's first hit of the game, however, came in the bottom of the fourth - a two-run home run to tie things up at two apiece.
The Huskies then took the lead with a big fifth inning, scoring three runs in three-straight at bats thanks to a sacrifice fly, and two doubles.
Washington added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2. The Badgers were unable to cut the deficit, ultimately falling in the game.
Salo was charged with the loss, giving up four earned in 4.1 innings pitched. Shelby Jacobson and Jordan Felci each gave up an earned run in their relief appearances.
