Badgers and Cardinal meet at Redwood Shores
MADISON, Wis. - The women's lightweight rowing team will head to California for a head-to-head match with Stanford University. The match will take place on Saturday, April 19th in Redwood Creek.Â
F(oar) things to know before the races.
1. Last Time Out: The Badgers are coming off of an impressive outing at the Knecht Cup last weekend. They finished with victories in the Lightweight Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight events. They also improved their times against opponents like Georgetown, who they had a head-to-head match with on April 6. Coach Habibovic was proud of the team's performance and resilience in tough conditions.
2. Scouting the Stanford Cardinal: Stanford came into the season ranked higher than Wisconsin in each event, with their highest ranking being No. 2 in the varsity four rankings. Wisconsin has not gotten the chance to face them yet this season as they did not compete in the Knecht Cup last week. Stanford is led by head coach Lizzy Houston, who is entering her second season at the helm in Redwood City.
Saturday's racing is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
3. Storied History: These two schools have traditions of success in lightweight rowing. Stanford has won 9 IRA championships compared to Wisconsin's 5. Stanford's last championship came in 2019.
