Wrestling hosts Purdue on Friday and Michigan State on Sunday
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin wrestling team (4-9, 0-5 B1G) hosts a Friday night student night against No. 28 Purdue (8-4, 1-3 B1G) on Feb. 2, at 9 p.m. They will then host Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 12 p.m. in the UW Field House. The dual can be streamed live on B1G+.
Last Time Out:
The Badgers have had a difficult start to the B1G Ten conference, and are looking for their first win. This weekend will be the last Big Ten home duals of the 2024-25 season.
Wisconsin's last dual at Nebraska resulted in a 35-7 loss. The highlight of the dual was redshirt-freshman Zan Fugitt's upset victory over No. 14 Jacob Van Dee, wrestling 133. This catapulted him to No. 14 in the Intermat rankings (133), climbing 8 spots from last week.
Wisconsin enters the matchup with two ranked competitors:
- Nicolar Rivera (125 lbs): No. 17 (Intermat), No. 18 (College Wrestling), No. 19 (FloWrestling)
- Zan Fugitt (133 lbs): No. 14 (Intermat), No. 15 (College Wrestling Report), No. 19 (FloWrestling)
Scouting the Competition:
No. 28 Purdue
The Boilermakers are currently 8-4 overall and 1-3 in the B1G conference. They are currently on a three-game losing streak, two of which have been conference matches.
Their last match was at Illinois on Saturday, Feb.1, and resulted in 35-8 loss.
Michigan State
Spartans wresting is also searching for their first Big Ten win, as they are 4-5 overall and 0-4 in the B1G conference this season. The team's last dual was against Clarion Sunday, Feb 2, in which they won 30-8.
