Wisconsin set to compete at with four-team lineup
AMES, IA - The Wisconsin wrestling team continues its early-season action this weekend, traveling to Ames for the Cyclone Invitational hosted by Iowa State on Saturday, Nov. 8. The five-team individual tournament will feature the Badgers alongside Iowa State, Utah Valley, California Baptist, and SIU-Edwardsville, with each program fielding up to two wrestlers per weight class.
1. LAST TIME OUT
Wisconsin opened the 2025-26 season with a dominant 36-3 win over North Dakota State at the UW Field House. The Badgers controlled the dual from start to finish, winning nine of ten bouts and showcasing depth across the lineup.
Standout performances included ranked victories from Nicolar Rivera (125) and Zan Fugitt (133), along with a sudden-victory win from Luke Mechler (157) over a returning NCAA All-American. Braxton Amos (285) delivered a pin to keep the momentum rolling and help secure Wisconsin's most convincing season-opening win in recent years.
2. SCOUTING THE TOURNAMENT
Iowa State enters the weekend ranked No. 4 nationally, returning multiple NCAA qualifiers and All-Americans from a roster that finished 12-3 in duals last season and placed six on the Big 12 podium.
Utah Valley closed the 2024-25 campaign 10-9 overall and 4-5 in Big 12 competition, highlighted by Terrell Barraclough's 14-0 dual record at 165 pounds and several returners across the middle weights.
California Baptist continues to build momentum in its Division I transition, producing several strong individual performances throughout the 2024-25 season.
SIU Edwardsville posted a 7-8 overall record and 4-3 conference mark last season, led by a lineup that showed steady progress against MAC opponents.
