Outside hitter named 1-of-14 semifinalists for national award
MADISON, Wis. – Outside hitter Mimi Colyer of the Wisconsin volleyball team has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 AVCA National Player of the Year, announced Friday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
This preseason, Colyer was named to the initial list of the 2025 AVCA National Player of the Year candidates, and has since been named 1-of-14 athletes to advance to the semifinalists list. Should Colyer earn the prestigious National Player of the Year award, Colyer would join the likes of Dana Rettke (2021) and Sarah Franklin (2023) of those who have won the award in program history.
In her senior campaign, Colyer has reached double-figure kills in all but one match so far this season, including six matches of 20 or more kills. The California native's stat line averages 5.20 kills per set, 2.14 digs per set, 0.71 blocks per set and 5.83 points per set. She ranks fifth in the NCAA in kills per set and fourth in the nation in points per set. Colyer is also hitting .318 – which serves as one of the highest hitting percentages in the Big Ten as a pin hitter.
So far this season, Colyer has collected two Big Ten Player of the Week awards, and was named AVCA National Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 16 where she averaged 5.83 kills per set and 6.25 points per set while hitting .582 (35-3-55).
Of the 14 athletes named to the semifinalists list, six are from the Big Ten. The four finalists announcement is slated for Monday, Dec. 15, and the reveal of the Player of the Year will be announced Friday, Dec. 19 during the AVCA Convention.
