Badgers travel to Ann Arbor to kick off road conference slate
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 10/9 Wisconsin men's hockey team travels to Ann Arbor for a top-10 series against the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines for its first conference road series of the season at Yost Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8.
Thursday's game starts at 6 p.m. CT and streams on B1G+, while Friday's game begins at 7 p.m. CT and airs on the Big Ten Network.
Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:
Rosters: Badgers || Wolverines
1 - OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER: Wisconsin's offense has been on fire this season, and it's one of five schools in the country to have four players with at least four goals – senior forward Christian Fitzgerald (6g), junior forward Quinn Finley (5g), senior forward Simon Tassy (4g) and freshman forward Blake Montgomery (4g).
The Badgers are also nationally ranked in multiple offense-related categories. UW is seventh in scoring offense among teams that have played at least three games at 3.88 goals per game, and it ranks third in power-play conversion percentage with 34.3 percent. It's also fourth in the country in team power-play goals with 12.

Over its past four games, Wisconsin has posted seven power-play goals, with three games of two power-play goals each. It's 6-0-0 in games it has tallied power-play goals.
"One guy who I think has really elevated is Simon Tassy," said Head Coach Mike Hastings about the importance of the team's net-front presence on the power-play. "He's done it by going into the hard areas without taking penalties. You are going to get beaten up to get in that area. Sooner or later, just like anywhere else, if you get pushed too far, you watnt to retaliate, and he's done a really good job of going in and being rewarded for that. But also, living on the edge a little bit without going over the edge and taking penalties."
2 - MONTGOMERY STAYS HOT: Blake Montgomery has four goals in three games, including scoring two in 21 seconds in the third period of Saturday's game against Minnesota. He also scored in the second period of Friday's game to kick off his three-goal weekend.

"His demeanor – he's got a smile on his face coming into the rink – he's probably one of those guys that can keep it as light as anybody," said Coach Hastings on Montgomery. "But, when we go out in practice he loves playing the game. Those guys are fun to be around."
Before scoring three goals in the series against the Gophers, Montgomery tallied his first NCAA goal in the third period of UW's Saturday, Oct. 25, game against Alaska.
3 - PROTECT THIS 'HAUS': Freshman netminder Daniel Hauser earned his second shutout of the year on Saturday vs. Minnesota, making a perfect 22 stops in UW's 4-0 victory. Hauser stopped 34 of 36 Minnesota shots and averaged 1.01 goals allowed on average in the series.
He ranks fourth in the nation with a 1.35 goals-against average and eighth with a .940 save percentage among goalies who have played at least two games. His two shutouts are tied for first in the country with five other players.

In game one, two goals from Fitzgerald propelled UW to a 5-2 win. After a scoreless first period, Fitzgerald broke the silence 5:26 into the second frame with a power-play goal. Less than 40 seconds later, Minnesota responded to tie the game. Wisconsin tallied twice more in the second, with Blake Montgomery finding the back of the net at 11:13 and Logan Hensler scoring at 11:56 to make it 3-1. To cap off a high-scoring second frame, Minnesota scored its second goal of the evening at 17:08 and UW skated into the third period with a 3-2 lead. At 2:19 into the third period, Tassy redirected a Fitzgerald shot for the team's second power-play goal of the night before Fitzgerald hit the empty-net to give the Badgers a victory.

In game two, Finley and Montgomery each struck twice and Hauser made a perfect 22 saves in Wisconsin's 4-0 victory to complete the sweep. Finley opened the scoring 8:17 into the first period. The sophomore also scored the next goal of the game, 5:43 into the second period on the power play, to make it 2-0. In the opening two minutes of the third period, Blake Montgomery scored twice, 21 seconds apart at 1:39 into the frame on the power play and again at two minutes in, as UW won, 4-0.

5 - SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: The Wolverines have a 9-1-0 record through 10 games and enter the weekend after sweeping Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, to open conference play. UM won game one, 5-3, and game two, 2-1, in overtime, to earn five of six points on the weekend. They sit third in the conference, one point behind Wisconsin and Penn State.
Sophomore forward Michael Hage leads the team with 15 points (6g, 9a), while sophomore forward Will Horcoff leads with 10 goals (14 points total). Freshman goaltender Jack Ivankovic has nine wins in 10 starts, accumulating a .934 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-allowed on average.
"Our game plan going it to is to we need to play our game, our speed, keep the puck on our stick and limit the time they have it," said junior defenseman Zach Schulz on the team's mindset heading to Ann Arbor. "We have to defend their transition as well as we can. That'll be our best way to shut that down."
