MADISON, Wis. — The men's and women's Wisconsin swimming and diving teams will return home to host Northwestern for a Senior Day dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+.
Before the Badgers dive in, here are five things to know:
1. LAST TIME OUT: Between the men and women, the Badgers won all but one event in their last meet on Jan. 4. The No. 12 women competed in a triple dual with UC San Diego and UCLA. The women won every event except for the 1000 freestyle. Phoebe Bacon earned a clean sweep, winning all four of her events. On the men's side, the No. 18 men competed in a dual with UC San Diego, where they took home first in every event. Taiko Torepe-Ormsby won both the 50 free and 50 fly, along with the 200 medley relay.Â
2. B1G TIME:Â Due to his stellar performance at UC San Diego, freshman Yoav Romano collected his first award of his collegiate career. The Israel native earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week with his first place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle along with being a member of the winning 400 free relay. Romano joins Phoebe Bacon, Hailey Tierney and Maggie Wanezek for Badgers who have earned Big Ten awards this season.Â
3. DIVING RIGHT IN: While the swimmers were out in California, the divers were preparing for the Utah Diving Invite. The Badgers traveled to Utah this past weekend, and claimed four spots in the finals. Jan Lanser, Jaden Eikermann, Greta Kavanagh and Ryane Neal each advanced to the finals. Lanser and Eikermann notched the highest finish in finals, as they placed fourth. Â
4. LOOKING AHEAD: After the meet vs Northwestern, the Badgers have just two meets left before Big Tens at the end of February. Next weekend, they will travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Tim Welsh Classic on Jan. 24-25. The Badgers will then have a week off before hosting the Badger Invitational on Feb. 7-8 for their final meet before postseason begins.Â
