
Torepe-Ormsby garners silver on last day of Big Tens

Wisconsin places fourth overall
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four the fourth time in the last five years, the Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team recorded a top-four finish, placing fourth at the 2024 Big Ten Championships.
The 21st-ranked Badgers scored 1,044.5 points, trailing only Indiana (1,520), Ohio State (1,226) and Michigan (1,153).
UW had four individuals record top-eight finishes, led by Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, who earned a silver medal in the 100 free. Torepe-Ormsby's time of 42.10 is now the second-fastest time in Wisconsin history. Andrew Benson was the second-fastest Badger in the event, placing 10th in 42.78.
Yigit Aslan started the meet off strong for Wisconsin, finishing fifth in the 1650 free in 14:51.53 as the sole Badger in the event.
Jake Newmark had an impressive swim in the 200 backstroke, swimming a 1:41.99 to place fourth overall. He was accompanied by Nathan Welker who placed 14th in 1:43.77 and Jake Dimartile who placed 17th in 1:43.62.
Dominik Mark Torok continued his success in the butterfly with a sixth-place finish in the 200 fly in 1:42.01.
Wisconsin ended the night with a third-place finish in the 400-free relay. Benson, Torepe-Ormsby, Nico Butera, and Chris Morris hit the wall in 2:50.88 to end the conference championships with the second-fastest time in program history.

DAY 3: Torok crowned Champion on night three of Big Tens
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 21st-ranked Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team completed day three of the Big Ten Championships on Friday night with Dominik Mark-Torok earning gold in the 400 IM and the 200 free relay garnering gold with a new school record.
Wisconsin sits in fourth place overall with a score of 734.5 points, trailing Indiana (996), Ohio State (820) and Michigan (770.5).
Mark-Torok started the night off strong for the Badgers, winning his second-consecutive Big Ten title in the 400 individual medley in 3:41.69. Mark-Torok led for the entirety of the race and was accompanied by Zach Ward, who placed 14th in 3:48.65.
Wisconsin had a strong slate of swimmers competing in the 200 free, with three athletes finishing in the top eight. Chris Morris led the Badgers in fifth place with a time of 1:33.77, followed by Nico Butera in sixth place with a time of 1:35.27, and Luukas Vainio to follow in eighth place in 1:35.40.
Truman teDuits was also in scoring position for the Badgers tonight, placing sixth in the 100 breast in a time of 52.62. His time is now fifth all-time in Wisconsin history.
Wisconsin finished the night off with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, Ben Wiegand, Morris, and Benson won the event in 1:15.35, which is a new school record for the Badgers by over a second.
Jake Dimartile was also recognized at the start of the finals session with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded to athletes who display positive sportsmanship throughout the season.

DAY 2: Torepe-Ormsby and Aslan crowned Big Ten Champions
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 21st-ranked Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team completed day two of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday night crowning two new Big Ten Champions, Yigit Aslan and Taiko Torepe-Ormsby.
Aslan garnered his first individual Big Ten title on Thursday in the 500 free, hitting the wall in just 4:11.20. Aslan's time is now the second-fastest mark in the event in program history. Freshman Luukas Vainio was the second-fastest for Wisconsin, placing ninth with a time of 4:18.24.
Continuing the momentum for Wisconsin was Torepe-Ormsby, who also earned his first Big Ten title in the 50 free. Torepe-Ormsby crushed his own school record, hitting the wall in an NCAA "A" cut time of 18.76. He also makes it the first time a Badger has won the event in the Big Ten in 43 years.
Andrew Benson tied for fourth in the 50 free in 19.37, followed by Ben Wiegand who placed eighth in the event in 19.56.

DAY 1: Badgers start Big Tens strong in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The 21st-ranked Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team started the first day of the 2024 Big Ten Championships with a pair of top-10 all-time relay performances on Wednesday night.
The 200 medley relay consisting of Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, Matthew Segal, Ben Wiegand and Andrew Benson hit the wall in an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:24.10, to finish fifth overall. This time ranks second all-time in Wisconsin program history.
The 800 free relay continued the momentum for the Badgers, earning a fourth-place finish with an NCAA "B" cut time of 6:16.63. Luukas Vainio, Dominik Mark-Torok, Nico Butera and Chris Morris swam the second-fastest time in program history to finish off night one.
The Badgers currently sit third, in the overall standings, trailing just Indiana and Michigan.
