Five Things to Know: Badgers take on Northwestern

Wisconsin continues season with conference opponent

MADISON, Wis. – The 13th-ranked women's (6-0, 2-0 BIG) and 22nd-ranked men's (4-1, 2-0 BIG) swimming and diving teams continue the season with a dual meet against Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. 

Here are five things to know for this weekend. 

1. Ranked in the Top 25: According to the CSCAA preseason poll, the Badgers check in at No. 13 for the women's team and No.22 for the men's. The women's team is undefeated in dual matchups so far this season, while the men's team is 4-1 in dual matchups. 

2. Men's B1G Leaders: The Badgers have several athletes that are among the top ten in the conference including Taiko Torepe-Ormsby with a second-place ranking in the 50 free, followed by Andrew Benson with a ninth-place placement. Freshman Luukas Vainio checks in at No. 5 in the 200 free accompanied by Chris Morris in seventh and Yigit Aslan in eighth. Aslan sits in sixth place in the Big Ten in the 500 free. Defending conference champion Dominik Mark-Torok is ranked third in the 400 individual medley, followed by Zach Ward sitting in seventh. Benson represents the Badgers in the breaststroke with a seventh-place rank in the 100 breast.

3. Women's B1G Leaders: Hailey Tierney continues to make a huge impact for Wisconsin, sitting at fourth place in 50 free in an NCAA B qualifying time of 22.08. She is also ranked 10th in the 100 free in 48.60. Blair Stoneburg is in third place in the 500 free accompanied by Abby Carlson right behind her in fourth. In the 1000 free, Paige Mckenna is ranked second with a 9:37.69 with freshman Maddie Waggoner right behind her in third with a 9:38.35, and Stoneburg in sixth with Alivia Lindorfer closely behind in seventh. Phoebe Bacon leads the conference in the 100 back and 200 back, securing her first-place spot in both events by over half a second. McConagha follows in the 100 back with a third-place ranking with an NCAA "B" cut time of 52.23.

4. Diving Right in: Senior Daniel Muller looks to continue his success on the 3-meter board at the tri-meet after earning two consecutive wins at the start of the season. Muller also won the 1-meter with 326.63 points, earning an NCAA "B" cut standard against Notre Dame. He is currently ranked 12th in the Big Ten in the 3-meter board and 13th in the 1-meter.
