MADISON, Wis. — Jordan Davis scored a team-high 14 points, but Wisconsin lost a heartbreaker against Rutgers in a 58-57 final on Saturday at the Kohl Center.
In addition to Davis's performance, Kamari McGee also scored a season-high nine points from off the bench.
Max Klesmit scored 11 points, while Steven Crowl grabbed 11 rebounds for UW to go along with eight points.
In the final 11.3 seconds following a Badgers (15-11, 7-9 Big Ten) timeout, Connor Essegian missed a runner in the lane and the ball got batted to Klesmit. Klesmit got cut off on a drive attempt at the right elbow, pivoted and threw to an open Essegian before Clifford Omoruyi sprinted, closed out and deflected Essegian's shot attempt.
UW's leading scorer Chucky Hepburn (12.7 ppg) got into foul trouble early and never found an offensive rhythm, scoring just six points on 2-for-7 shooting. Essegian (11.8 ppg) scored his only two points from the foul line and missed all 10 of his shot attempts.
The Badgers shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half, including 6-for-14 from 3-point range. Davis scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half alone.
The second half was a different story, however, as UW shot just 21.9 percent from the floor.
Next up, Wisconsin hosts Iowa on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
