MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's basketball team continues its three-game homestand hosting Rutgers on Saturday. The Badgers are set to take on the Scarlet Knights at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
Before the Badgers welcome the Scarlet Knights, here is the Starting Five.
1. LAST TIME OUT:Â Returning back to the Kohl Center for the first time in over a week, the Badgers earned a 64-59 win over Michigan on Tuesday night. UW was led by a career-high 23 points from Connor Essegian, who shot 6-for-12 from the floor and 9-for-10 at the free throw line. Steven Crowl finished the night with a double-double, tallying 11 points and 12 rebounds, plus a team-high six assists. Max Klesmit added 10 points.
2. CANT STOP CONNOR: Essegian has quickly become one of the best freshmen in the Big Ten, and one of the best sharp shooters in the country. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native is shooting 42.3 percent from 3-point range this season, ranked fourth in the Big Ten. In fact, Essegian is now just three triples shy of breaking Wisconsin's freshman record for 3-point field goals in a season, which is currently held by Brad Davison who made 60 during the 2017-18 season.
3. BENCH BOOST: The Badger bench was a bright spot in Tuesday's win, scoring a combined 12 points. Sophomore guard Kamari McGee scored a season-high six points, while Jordan Davis also added five points. Carter Gilmore played a significant role in the Badgers success defensively, as he helped limit Michigan's top scorer, Hunter Dickinson, to just three points in the second half.
4. SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS:Â Rutgers (16-10, 8-7 B1G) is led by junior center Clifford Omoruyi, who averages 13.5 points per game. Two other Rutger players are scoring in double figures:Â Cam Spencer (12.3 ppg), and Aundre Hyatt (10.0 ppg). The Scarlet Knights are coming off of an 82-72 home loss against Nebraska on Tuesday.
5. HISTORY WITH RUTGERS: Wisconsin leads the all-time series between the two programs, 10-4. The last matchup came in Piscataway, when the Badgers Badgers earned a 66-61 victory. In that most recent meeting, Hepburn scored 13 points and had five assists, while Tyler Wahl tallied 11 points and nine rebounds.
